Not even economics, common sense

Just using common sense would have saved a world of trouble for college students:

People are lazy. If you give someone money to do something, they will find a way to do as little of that thing as possible while still making money. And if you don't supervise them to catch them slacking off, they will slack off to the point where the thing isn't getting done. This applies to mechanics, lawyers, scientists and most importantly, bankers.

And that's why I'm so thankful that Congress has just got their act together on it.

Seriously- if you're giving a bank money to give to students, they're going to skim some off the top. It's not dishonesty (mostly)- it's just that there's so much needless bureacracy that comes with running a bank that everyone needs paid. You're much better off giving the student a Pell grant to reduce government waste. Of course, the last bunch wasn't as concerned with reducing waste as they were with lining their pockets- we'll see if this crop is any different.

Journal Maintenence Announcement

I have attracted a troll on a thread that I usually enjoy for debating. To protect myself and my friends before things start to suck, I am instituting the following policies:

1) Anonymous comments are no longer allowed on my journal. I find that when a Troll has to give out any identifying information of any kind, he loses his nerve and retreats back under his bridge.

2) Entries with any of my identifying information are as of right now, Friends Only. There is no way in hell that I'm going to make it easy for someone to stalk me. If you want to be my friend, and can prove that you're not a very scary person, comment on one of my open entries and I'll add you.

3) As of right now, I am logging everyone's IP address. If you are an ass, I'm going to have yours in a sling.

Sorry for the increased security for those of you who are nice to me. It only takes one asshole to spoil everything, but I'm sure you understand that these methods are pretty rudimentary ways to protect myself. Since none of you have ever been assholes, this does not apply to you.
