hertinkness: (Beagles R0XX0R)
It ended up being a really good weekend for beagles.

First, I made some money. Enough to cover groceries for the next few weeks. Before you start looking up the local SPCA, no- I didn't sell any. I babysat one- total sweetheart. The name was Djoser, after the Egyptian king. He had got loose once before and made for a very frantic rainy 24 hours before D the rescue operator and the owners finally got him back. As a direct result of that, I had to wear this contraption that went around my waist and attached to his leash when I walked him. Very stable- if I move somewhere with icy weather or get multiple dogs, I might invest in one of those for Rollin- but the bootlace around the wrist is cheaper and a bit less... intrusive. His parents treat him like a prince, and he just lavishes everyone with affection. After the whole weekend, I'm still unable to decide whether he's the lucky one or his parents are!

I brought Djoser to the adoption event because his parents wouldn't be back until it was over. Since it was the first nice Sunday of the Whole Frakking Year, we all sat outside under a canopy and let the dogs play in the grass. Djoser, Zoe and Mason, Miller, Sammy, Sunny/Freckles (depending on who's calling her), Pogo, and two newbies Fat Duke and one of the unnamed shy beagle girls (well... the name was Gertrude but that didn't suit her- we just called her Lil' Girl) all got along great and relaxed outside for three hours while people came to pet them. We got some interest, and a few applications that I really really hope will work out! Some girl came to look at Mason and handed an application on the spot (which is great because we really need to find both of them homes). Two families came down with their dogs, and it certainly seems like they're each going to take one of the shy beagle girls. Another family came down and looked at Sunny (who potentially frakked it up at the dog park by getting into a disagreement with a mini-pin) and Miller, but didn't make up their minds- it's good that they got a second glance. Even Fat Duke got some interest from a woman whose beagle passed away in August- she took an application and was going to talk to her husband! We got two new volunteers who will walk Miller and Sammy at the kennels, and they seemed like the type who could be talked into fostering or even adopting. All in all, a pretty damn good day for beagles.
