Last night I was dropped into the middle of a full-scale dystopian Sci-Fi epic by my overactive imagination. I was trying to get off a dying space station, along with 30,000 of my closest friends, with all the chaos that you can imagine in doing so. And somehow in the middle of this, I was handed documents- paper documents, very rare there- recording exactly how and why this happened. And right after I had saved the kid from the explosion, but couldn't find his mother, right after I had shepherded a family into the evacuation shaft, right after I had saved myself and was just about to board the ship, right when someone approached me about the documents and I was about to find out what the whole dream meant...

...my frakking alarm goes off.

Poor Economy Slams Brakes on Women's Workplace Progress

On one hand, this sucks. Women are losing their jobs, and because the market won't support them at the same rate, they're choosing unemployment and/or raising a family in lieu of a job.

On the other hand, ohthankGod they're not dropping out en masse to be SAHMs because they're convinced that their motherhood is so highly valued that they shouldn't even THINK about anything else until their youngest is 25, like society seems to tell us. They're dropping out because their work is less valued than their husbands' (suuuuuuuck), but not because they've fallen victim to June Cleaver Syndrome.
