hertinknessY'know, I thought the academics were the good guys. Then I find this... mysoginistic pile of crap in an American Psychological Association talk!
In case you don't want to cause your brain cells to commit suicide from teh stupid, I'll boil it down for you: men have not oppressed women, stolen their work, and basically beat them with social mores into submission for centuries- women are just lazy and/or stupid. It's the exact fucking same racist rant that southern white rednecks with a confederate flag on the back of their truck spout when talking about why black people have not pulled themselves up by the bootstraps after slavery ended, just replace women with [insert absolutely vile racial slur here].
For one thing, he's wrong- the data on female vs. male IQ doesn't bear out the fact that women are less mentally able than men. Full stop. True, historically men have been further at either end of the bell curve, but I wonder how much of that was that women just weren't getting tested because they weren't expected to do anything other than shit out babies and keep the house clean? Even then, everyone who's taken basic statistics knows that the outliers don't tend to drive a trend.
The rest of it is pure unadaulterated bull. What? Women couldn't even have kids right until men got involved? No women composers in the 19th century because they were all content to entertain? Women NOT INTERESTED IN SCIENCE?!?!? Good God, I'm a geologist, and even I can poke holes in this argument. What happened? Did he not get tenure because a woman faculty member published more? Why wasn't he shouted off the stage? Are there that many psychologists who are just that dumb, or even agree with him? The APA needs more angry chicks with rock hammers walking around, if that's the case.
I don't say this lightly, but man, fuck you. It's people like you that are the reason why we need Title IX and workplace antidiscrimination laws, NOT because we're stupid or lazy. I pity your grad students.

Nothing to do with inborn intelligence, but any society where boys get educated and girls do not (or boys learn languages and history while girls learn sewing and emboidery); where men are expected to be interested in politics while women are punished for thinking and having dissenting opinions will produce more apparently intelligent males than females. Repeat with social class or race.
